The Sign Sales DNA Project is a research study designed to identify and quantify the most important skills, attitudes and personality traits for a successful sign salesperson. The study was conducted during the 3rd Quarter of 2015, and promoted through a wide range of industry publications, trade associations, franchises and Social Media. Responses came from franchise and independent sign shops, regional and national electric sign manufacturers/installers, sign distributors/installers (no manufacturing) and large format/ specialty printers, and included full-time sales representatives, owners in the full-time sales role and part time salespeople, as well as owners/managers with no sales responsibility.

The Sign Sales DNA Project is all about identifying and prioritizing both the personality traits and the working skills and attitudes that make up the optimum “DNA” for a modern sign salesperson. The goal of the study was to identify both what salespeople think is important, and what management thinks is important, and ultimately to get everyone on the same page, leading to better hiring, training and management. The comprehensive report includes breakouts of data by job responsibilities, type of printing company, age range and experience range. It also include 5 pages of analysis and commentary by the Project's originator and manager, Dave Fellman.
